The brand’s roots stretch back to the 1950s, when the Nair family patriarch, Captain Krishnan Nair, entered the intricately woven world of textiles. He set up Leela Scottish Lace, a lace-manufacturing business named after his wife, Leela, and worked in hand- spun Indian yarn — a precursor to his now iconic Bleeding Madras. Later, at the age of 65, Captain Nair’s ambitious and visionary heart led him to establish his first luxury hotel in Mumbai.

The Nair family nurtured that first hotel into a world renowned hospitality brand: The Leela Palaces, Hotels and Resorts, eight magnificent hotels famed internationally as beacons of Indian luxury.

Over the years, the family built a reputation for unparalleled service and first-class culinary experiences, hosting New York’s acclaimed restaurants Le Cirque and Megu while honing their original Indian fine-dining experience, Jamavar, across five Indian cities.

The restaurants themselves are design-led, providing fitting backdrops to good company, easy conversation and glorious food. The co-founders pore over every minute detail, scouring the globe for plush, artisanal textiles; commissioning artists to illustrate intricate wall murals; hand- selecting everything from the furnishings to the tableware; and adding finishing touches from their own personal collections.
